History


1929



The two brothers, Chrysostomos and Costas Mitsides, who were dealing with timber trading, purchase a stone mill on Nikiforou Foka, in the old town of Nicosia, opposite the historic Famagusta Gate.

The two brothers establish a partnership under the name "Chrysostomos and Costas Mitsides" with major activities to include flour milling, pasta manufacturing, timber trading and ice making. The stone mill is put in operation and the company's first pasta line is introduced under the name "Krinos".

The second family line takes over the running of the company with Petros & Stelios Chr. Mitsides and Petros & Mikis C. Mitsides as directors.

1955


The first industrial flourmill is set up with machinery from Miag of Germany. The milling capacity is now at 25 tons daily. In addition, the company imports an ice cream cone producing unit, also from Germany.

1958


During the first bi-communal conflicts, the Timber center which was situated in Ermou street in the heart of Nicosia, is destroyed and is rebuilt on Nikiforou Foka.

1961


The first modern pasta machinery is imported from Baibanti of Italy. The following year, industrial production of pasta begins with a capacity of 200 kgs per hour, and the first Mitsides pasta is launched on the Cyprus market.

 

1965


The first export shipment of Mitsides Pasta is effected, with the UK being the first destination.

1970

The flourmill, as well as the ice-cream cone and ice units are completely destroyed by fire. In the same year, the partnership becomes a limited liability company under the name "Chr. & C. Mitsides Ltd".

1971


A new mill is constructed on the site of the old one, with new automatic machinery from Sangatti of Italy. The milling capacity now rises to 60 tons daily.

1977


The third family line takes over the management of the company with Chrysostomos St. Mitsides, Chrysostomos P. Mitsides, Constantinos P. Mitsides and Olga Lysandrou as Directors.

1978


Packaging of pasta, which up to then was done by hand, now becomes automated.

1983


The packaging of flour becomes automated and the following year the mill's capacity rises to 100 tons daily.

1988


A new pasta factory with brand new machinery is constructed in the Dhali Industrial Area. In two years two completely automated production lines for long and short pasta start operation, and the pasta plant's total production capacity rises to 1,500 kg per hour.

1996


An agreement is signed with Petrini of Italy, for the import, under-license production and distribution of the known Italian pasta brand Spigadoro.

1997



Cooperation with Tricon Global Restaurants and Pizza Hut international begins. Chr. & C. Mitsides becomes an approved supplier of flour for the Pizza Hut chain globally, and as such the company starts exports of substantial quantities of flour to all Pizza Hut restaurants in the Middle East and Arab Gulf.
During the same year, agreements are signed with Triglia and Monder of Italy, for the import, packaging and distribution of a line of ready-made pasta sauces and a line of dry tortellini, respectively. All the above are sold under the Mitsides name.
Furthermore, during the same year, an agreement is signed with Puratos N.V. of Belgium, the world leader in ingredients for the baking, confectionery and other food industries, for the exclusive distribution of their products in Cyprus.

1998


New offices and a warehouse of 5,000 sq.mtrs are built in the Dhali Industrial Zone and the following year a new fully computerized mixing plant for the production and packaging of specialty flours is built next to the pasta plant. In addition, the production capacity of the flour mill is increased to 130 tons daily.

2000



In June 2000, Chr. & C. Mitsides Ltd becomes a public company.

In the same year, as a result of its cooperation with Tricon Restaurants International and Pizza Hut as an approved flour supplier, Mitsides wins the "Middle East Supplier of the Year" award for the year 2000. This award is annually granted by Tricon, based on criteria of quality, hygiene, service, timely delivery and sales volumes.

2001


In January 2001, both the Flourmill and the Pasta Factory acquire the ISO9002 quality certification.





On October 31st, "Larnaca Flourmills Zenon Ltd", a Mill with a capacity of 100 tons daily, joins the Mitsides Group after its takeover by Chr. & C. Mitsides Ltd. The total capacity of the group's two mills now stands at 230 tons daily, making the Mitsides group the largest by far producer of flour in Cyprus.

During the same month, the Mitsides Quality Centre is launched at the Group's Headquartes in Dhali. The quality Centre regularly hosts specialized seminars for bakers and confectioneries, with the participation of experts from Cyprus and abroad.

As a result of its cooperation with Tricon and Pizza Hut Mitsides wins for the 2nd time the "Middle East Supplier of the Year" award for the year 2001, and also receives the highest distinction of all and is pronounced as Tricon's "Star International Supplier of the Year" among 630 suppliers worldwide.

2002


During 2002, a related company creates the Olympico Futsal Athletic Centre, a European standards centre that comprises two high quality futsal grounds. The centre is located in grounds next to the Group's Headquarters in Dhali industrial Zone

2003


In November 2003 a separate production line for fresh / frozen pasta products is set up next to the Mitsides Pasta Plant and the first Mitsides ravioli are introduced.




Chr. & C. Mitsides receives for a third time the "Supplier of the Year Award" for its area (Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan) by Yum! Brands (former Tricon).

2004


In February 2004 both the Mitsides Flourmill and the Mitsides Pasta plant acquire the HACCP Food Safety Management System certification by the CCC and ELOT.



In June 2004 Chr. & C. Mitsides submit an application for dual listing on the Cyprus and Athens stock Exchanges.

In December 2004 Mitsides acquires a 10% share holding in Serbian company Zitopromet Bratstvo A.D., a company dealing with the production of flour, pasta and bakery products, as well as the trading of grains.

2005


In March 2005 a new line of Mitsides products enters the Cyprus market. The new line comprises of various kinds of processed tomato products, including two types of chopped peeled tomatoes in 400g tins, as well as tomato pulp and paste in catering packages of 2.5 and 5 kilos.

In June 2005, Serbian company Zitopromet Bratstvo A.D. starts the construction of a new, modern Pasta Plant of a total capacity of 2.000 kilos per hour, in Sremska Mitrovica.

In July 2005 "Chr. & C. Mitsides Ltd" is renamed as "Mitsides Public Company Ltd".

In November 2005, Mitsides begins the construction of its own Grain Silos on its Headquarters grounds in Dhali Industrial Zone. Four Silos of a total capacity of 10.000 tons are being constructed.

In December 2005, Mitsides Group increases its share holding in Serbian company Zitopromet Bratstvo A.D. from 10% to 45.57%.

In the same month, Mitsides receives Yum! Brands "Supplier of the Year" award for the fourth time, as a result of its flour exports to Pizza Hut restaurants in the Middle East and Arab Gulf.

2006


In February 2006, Mitsides Passata in 500g carton packages, enters the Cyprus market.

In May 2006 Mitsides begins the import and distribution of Italian pasta Spiga Di Puglia.
